I bought four peaches from Coles earlier this week. They were in the “in season” area. Hard as rocks.
Got them home and I had a pink lady apple left over from last week so I bashed it a couple of times against the supposed granite kitchen counter (that’s how it was advertised by the estate agent – it’s actually “granite-style” laminate) so it would release fruit-ripening ethylene. Put them all in a bag and yet three days later, three peaches were completely wooden inside, starchy and tasteless and only one was edible.
If they’re in season, surely all should have ripened OK?
At the moment I hate the Coles self-serve section they’re forcing on us (a bloke comes over when you’re in the queue and says: “Why don’t you use the self-serve section?”) – I’ve used it once. They’re really cramped together, too. Not much space. It feels just like the banks when they went to ATMs – you end up doing the employees’ work but they keep charging high prices.
I love the store’s new layout. The aisles are cut in half so you don’t have to walk the whole length. Finally. Haven’t been able to buy any magazines in the past two weeks as they’ve been moved outside the store during the rejig.
Am not sure about all the placement of pharmacy goods in the front middle section though — it’s a supermarket, not a chemist. The lower shelves there look great — they open up a view of the whole store.
